Go Belgium, Go

On June 3rd I will be in front of tv/computer following the result in a national football game.

The match between Belgium, with some of the most promising and talented young players in Europe, against a Turkey that is trying to pluck the best of the Germany born turks around for their national team.

Rumour is that if Turkey loses this game then Guus Hiddink might consider breaking his contract with Turkey or that Turkey will release him. As Turkey then can not reach the Euro 2012 in Ukraine and Poland.

Turkey is way behind Germany who will take the direct spot to Euro 2012 in Group A. No doubt about that. They are 6 points and one game less ahead of Turkey in third spot. Belgium are in second place one point, but one more game ahead of Turkey. Belgium also has a better goal difference and plays Azerbadjzan in their last game. Turkey has tougher opponents in 4th placed Austria away and less tough Kazakstan (0 points) and Austria at home.

A win for Belgium and their young new stars, from Kompany, Hazard, Vermaelen, Vertonghen to Lukaku, de Bruyn, Axel Witsel, Mignolet and so forth are slight favourites to win at home and hence carry the second place that will qualify them for a play-off for the Euro 2012. It will however not be easy, Turkey is not in any way a poor opponent and very capable of beating Belgium.

We have heard many rumours about Hiddink lately. It was just days ago revealed that he never really left Chelsea after Øvrebø made sure Barcelona went to the final in the 2009 Champions League. Guus has stayed on in an advisory role to the board. Something I wonder a lot about. What has his advice been and how has that really worked out? Did Turkey accept that? Did Carlo really know that? Was that really smart? Why has it been kept secret?

Anyway, the link to Chelsea is already there.

Guus Hiddink is maybe my favourite manager of all time. His time in Chelsea was short but glorious, but it is his work elsewhere that already before Hiddink`s Chelsea time that made him my favourite. Without Øvrebø he would have taken us to the Champions League final as stated, and he did win the FA Cup with us. Last time by the way we beat Everton. I loved his football in Chelsea and how he motivated the established stars again after a dull session with Scolari. (There certainly is a parallell there to how they have played this season).

He is with Mourinho and Ferguson the best game coach in the business. Probably the best.

He is tactically among the very best.

He knows Chelsea and all that entails.

He is an immense motivator of players. Maybe the best there too, though with somewhat different methods I think than Ferguson.

He is no push-over from any board or owner.

He has an excellent relationship with Roman. Not to be disregarded.

They say he does not want to be a day-to-day manager anymore. I doubt the truth in that. Sure, he is getting a bit old so he might not be the manager for a longer future. Then, that is not how I see (want to see) this play out.

His wife Liesebethe likes London and says be lobbying for them to settle in London.

He is already a bit of a legend in Chelsea for the way he came in and settled things two years ago. He has shown he can calm the waves and deal with our strong minded squad of players. So he already have the fans behind him.

He is a likeable person that the media will have huge trouble stirring up and paint as the face of the Enemy of Football.

Yes, getting Guus Hiddink is my dream now.

I see him as a caretaker manager.

I would like to see him take over Chelsea 2011-2012 on his own with an assistant by his own choosing. Then I want him to take the step up to be the Sporting Director he has been groomed to be in Chelsea for a long time (and into the future) working with a younger more long-term manager.

That choice of mine is André Villas-Boas. This will give him the next year working with Porto and learning the European football scene even better in the Champions League. It will allow him to work through much of what he has started with a very promising team. Then we should pluck him.

And if that does not work, the 2012-2013 season a certain Pep Guardiola will be available after leaving Barcelona as is his intention after next season.

This is my dream scenario. I can only hope for it as I know no more than anyone outside the inner circle of the board, Roman and Marina Granovskaia (the new person of interest for Chelsea supporters as she seems to handle a lot of Chelsea negotiations now).

So Go Belgium, Go…..
